WNC Migrant Hotel Debate

West Northants Council met on Wednesday 25 September. The Conservative opposition used their Opposition Priority Business to highlight the topic of the migrant hotels.

Council agenda and all business is here.

I did not object to the motion, what I found objectionable was their revisionism of recent history and hypocrisy in asking the new Reform administration do do things and take actions that could have been done by the previous administration.

Politics I suppose, but please do not ask Reform to spend money on legal fees, issue court injunctions, planning Stop Notices, create new case law and many other things that they were unwilling to do when in administration.  That is just hypocrisy and I will call it out and keep all sides honest.

I tabled an amendment that simply stated this council notes that the items being called for were not implemented by the previous administration.

Reform backed the amendment therefore tacking this onto the Conservative motion.  The Conservatives then voted for the motion with my words in it saying they did not do these things. That admission was telling.

My speech to Council introducing the amendment start here.

When we got to the debate on the main motion I took the chance to scotch rumours about residents in the MK Hotel and involvement in a recent alleged sexual assault on a young girl in Deanshanger.

My comments to Council on the main motion start here:
