In their latest letter of assessment to the Furtho Pit development at Cosgrove / Old Stratford the Environment Agency (EA) are maintaining their OBJECTION to the proposal.

The EA have assessed the latest set of proposals to overcome the flood risks associated with these plans and describe them as a “radical flood mitigation measure”. This includes a reservoir that will hold up to 10 MILLION gallons of water which they class as potentially “high” risk given its location.
The EA have given the applicants advise as to what they would need to see before any scheme has been given approval. They also point out that in the applicant’s own model there could be flooding of 1.0 to 2.8 metres on site. This too they advise needs to have approved emergency evacuation plans and asks WNC to ensure that the necessary agencies are asked for their their advice.
As a direct result of information from Stop3000Trucks on potential contamination on the site the EA have revised their thoughts and issued new conditions that will need to be met about the contamination survey before commencement and during any possible construction.
It is heartening to see that the campaign from Stop3000Trucks is having a positive impact. The letter states explicitly that much of the recent work the EA has done has been in consideration of the reports submitted by the pressure group.
This level of development on this site has always been unacceptable. I will continue to oppose this and support those of a like mind.
